Memories Of A Vet

Postby lorie on 21 Apr 2011 18:34

I posted this poem very briefly a little while back and took it down to try and publish it. Well that did not happen and my husband said Lorie you wrote it for the service men and women it only matters that you share it with them and he was right so here it is again I hope you all enjoy it.
Memories Of A Vet
Although your body does not lay,In a battlefield unmarked grave
You may not bare wounds upon your flesh,no outward signs of distress
Your scars lay deeper locked inside, only to be find upon your soul and mind
Now safely home there's things you miss, a restful nights sleep, peaceful bliss
This all evaides you in the night sky,as those memories play out in your tired eyes
You find peace in the simple thing,a childs laugh or a bird as it sings
Your footsteps lay heavy with the weight of the past
Though others see hero you dont find that within yourself
Decorated with medals no matter to you, you just did your job, you seen it through
Army,Airforce,Navy,Marine you all carry with you these memories
One day they will lay a flag upon your chest, to be peaceful laid to rest
Only then does your war truely end. Author: Lorie Curry Harris

Beautiful Lorie; thank you for posting it. I think you have perfectly said what so many of us feel, but can't find the right words.

Thank you Linda. As I have said before when I posted The Soldier we need to always remember the sacrafices the service men and women have given so we can enjoy our freedoms today. Just because there physical war may be over there mental war will always be raging. I am so happy you enjoyed it.

For those of you who may wish to know my second book is out and is doing very well. It was published in August 2012 and is called Just Beyond The Sunrise by Lorie Curry Harris. It also includes poems about the military. Wish I could post them here but I am no longer allowed because of my publishing contract. I pray you are all doing well. God bless and have a wonderful holiday season. Be safe.
