Could you give us some quick insights into your next Easy-related book? Rich Riley said that you were working on a book that interviewed some of the lesser known Easy vets. I'm anxious to know some details and the publication timeline. :-)

Sure Mooch, it's a pretty exciting project ... Sometimes I can't believe I'm actually talking to these men!

The next project is a compilation memoir with 20 of the surviving members of Easy Company. It's told in oral-history style, similar to Bill and Babe's book. Berkley/Caliber (Penguin) is pubishing the book, set to be released in spring 2009. The book doesn't have an official title yet, so it's just being referred to as "The Men of Easy Company" project. The book is finished right now and over at the publisher for edits.

Men participating are:

Rod Bain
Don Bond
Roy Gates
Forrest Guth
Ed Joint

Clancy Lyall
Joe Lesniewski
Dewitt Lowrey
Al Mampre
Earl “One Lung” McClung

Norman Neitzke
Ed Pepping
Frank Perconte
Darrell “Shifty” Powers
Frank Soboleski

Herb Suerth, Jr.
Amos “Buck” Taylor
Ed Tipper
Bill Wingett
Henry Zimmerman

Another interesting part of the book is that four adult-children of deceased E Co members are contributing essays titled "memories of my father," set to be published as an appendix to the book.

Contributing essays are:

*George Luz Jr and Lana Luz Miller, about George Luz Sr.
* Susan Finn, about Robert Burr Smith
* Michael Sobel, about Herbert Sobel.

I'll write again soon when a title is decided upon, and also give more details closer to publication date.

Thanks everyone for reading!

Marcus,
That is absolutely fantastic. I can't believe you got Dewitt Lowery to take part. I was under the impression he really didn't want to dredge up his old memories. But its great that he's changed his mind. Shame you couldn't get Jack McGrath as well. But the lineup is outstanding and the essays from the Sink Kids will be a wonderful addition, especially Michael Sobel's.
I can't wait for this one too!

We were able to reach Dewitt Lowrey through Rich Riley, who put us in touch with Dewitt's daughter, Dr. Nancy Crumpton. Great family. Dewitt's war ended when he was wounded in Carentan. His best line is in reference to Normandy:

"I’ll put it like this: D-Day—that was a bad day for a lot of young men." --Dewitt Lowrey.

Marcus, that is going to be one heck of a book! What an impressive group you got together...please make it (at least) 1000 pages thick!

Through your list I also discovered a name we stilled missed on our (still alive) Easy Co veterans list, namely: Don Bond, so thanks for that :tinhat1

Marcus, that next one sounds like one heck of a project! Glad to see that you've managed to given voice to so many Easy Co men who, till now, haven't had their tales told.

Looking forward to Spring 2009 now! :tinhat18
