A Hero's Story-The Major Dick Winters Exhibit (Hershey, PA)

As announced yesterday by Larry Alexander, Major Winters has donated his entire home office and memorabilia to the Hershey - Derry Township Historical Society

Hence...

"A Hero's Story" - The Major Dick Winters Exhibit will be set up.

Formal Dedication Ceremony will take place on October 25, 2008.
Guest of Honor will be Colonel Cole Kingseed, to all of us well known as co-author of "Beyond Band of Brothers".

Next, the Major Dick Winters Exhibit will be open for public from November 11th.

I was fortunate to attend the dedication on Saturday and it is very impressive. Right down to the same wallpaper. Mrs Winters had some rolls of it left from when they decorated the den last. Col Kingseed gave a magnificent speech and then he and some of the Major's closest friends Herm Clemens, Bob Hoffman, and Bill Jackson, cut the ribbon to the display. Jamaica's print is displayed on one of the shelves, along with the books about Easy . The Major is truely loved by his friends and neighbors in Hershey.

Reminder: Exhibit opens for public on November 11th and is open till ...let's hope forever

Event Date(s): 11/11/2008 to 12/31/2008

Event Time(s): Monday-Friday: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Admission: FREE

Event Details: The display incorporates memorabilia and artifacts from Major Winters WWII campaigns in Normandy, at the Battle of the bulge, and from Easy Company's final occupation at Berchtesgaden. The exhibit will also include an interactive kiosk featuring Major Winters discussing his principles of leadership and recounting the events of this compelling story.

For the holiday season, the exhibit and the historical society's museum, library and museum store will be open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

It will be closed for Christmas and New Year's Day.
