Awesome...this is gonna be great. Looks like it will be a lot more gritty and grim due to the subject matter. Island fighting in the Pacific was on a different level than the European Campaign. :tinhat3

Finally some news again:

Spielberg, Hanks bring Hollywood to the You Yangs

ACTION: Actors were put through their paces at the You Yangs yesterday as they prepared to film the Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks mini-series The Pacific.

HOLLYWOOD arrived at the You Yangs this week as scores of crew, cast and extras began filming the Tom Hanks-Steven Spielberg epic The Pacific.

The Sandy Creek Rd sand quarry was transformed into an up-market camping ground and staging post for the $150 million mini-series, with dozens of hired trucks, cars, people movers, luxury buses and campervans jockeying for position with casting tents for Hollywood stars and extras.

United States Marine Corp drill sergeants began the task of transforming extras into soldiers, showing them the basics of military drill minus the yelling and abuse usually associated with that role.

Junior crew were not sure whether Hanks, considered one of the most bankable male stars, would take a more hands-on role during the Victorian leg of the shoot.

``He flew in and out in Port Douglas but I don't know if he will be coming here,'' a source said.

``It would be pure speculation on my part.''

The Pacific is a companion piece to the award-winning Band of Brothers and follows the journeys of three US marines fighting the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II.

Part of the epic was shot in far North Queensland near Cairns, on a privately-owned beach-front property.

It is expected a crew of several hundred will be based in the region until about March.

It is believed the film-makers would also use 300 American and Japanese extras.
