GENE GOOK A/506 MARMION FARM

Postby raveno44 on 16 Nov 2010 17:43

Guys:Gals...

Any info on Pvt Eugene A Cook, Jr A/506 on D-Day?

Gene Cook is one of two names proposed for the trooper 2nd from right in the Marmion Farm group photo with the German flag. The other name is Cpl Earl H Butz, HQ 3/506. Cpl Butz was KIA on 11 June 1944 at Carentan & is buried in the US, exactly where I don't yet know? Anyone help?

It's vital I leave no stone unturned in trying to ID the troopers in the photo. This is the iconic 101st D-Day image...

Re: GENE GOOK A OR B/506 MARMION FARM?

Guys/Gals...

Do you know if wartime photos exist of Gene Cook & Earl Butz?

I quoted Gene Cook as A/506 from his 'testimony at: http://www.strictly-gi.com/page126.html This includes photos in 1996 & 2004.

However, I've just found an online 506 roster which shows Gene as B/506: http://www.usairborne.be/Roster/ROSTER-506PIR.pdf

A further A/506 roster for 1942-45: http://www.506infantry.org/index.htm doesn't include Gene Cook?

I'm fast learning not to believe everything that appears in print!

When I talked to Gene he said he was in Able Co.
Maybe Don Burgett can ACK this.
